Joyful Sounds of Christmas (Luke 2:1-20)
Sermon Notes
Sunday, 23 December 2012 00:00

We were blessed Sunday with a wonderful time of singing and fellowship together. Thank you to everyone who sang and played special numbers for us!

Following are a few thoughts on this Christmas day, 2012:

It is not about the straw. It is about the sacrifice.
It is not about the manger. It is about HIM becoming man.
It is not about the cows. It is about the cross.
It is not about the barn. It is about His blood.
It is not about toy fire trucks. It is about His forgiveness.
It is not about the lights on the tree. It is about Jesus, The Light of the World.
It is not about our gifts. It is all about HIS GIFT of eternal life.

Regarding that favorite Christmas carol "Away in a Manger," we are among those who are eternally grateful that Jesus made A WAY in the manger.
In fact, He made THE WAY for you and me.
Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him (Thomas), “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

President John Quincy Adams stated in Newburyport, July 4, 1837:

"In the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior...It forms a leading event in the Progress of the Gospel dispensation...
Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer's mission upon earth?
That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity and gave to the world the first irrevocable pledge of the fulfillment of the prophecies announced directly from Heaven at the birth of the Saviour and predicted by the greatest of the Hebrew prophets 600 years before." (Source: American Minute.com; 12-25-2012)

May we remember to be praying for our nation that our leaders’ hearts would become more closely aligned with those of our founders, as evidenced in the above quote from our sixth president.

Merry Christmas!
Pastor Dave
